GEOLOGY OF ELEUTHERA ISLAND,
BAHAMAS

Eleuthera Island (looking NNW) - this 110 mile long,
up-to-2-miles-wide island is located in the northeastern part of the Great Bahama
Bank. The lakes at right are just northwest of Gregory Town. The
elongated island at upper left is Harbour Island. The very narrow neck at
left is Glass Window. The dark blue water in the background is the
Atlantic Ocean. The turquoise-colored water in the foreground is Exuma
Sound.

Eleuthera Island (satellite photo) is a very narrow, linear-arcuate
island. Several other Bahamian islands also have this general geometry,
such as Great Abaco, Great Exuma, Cat Island, and Long Island.
